Samsung today has announced the release of Samsung Galaxy Grand – a latest launch of Samsung – Samsung Galaxy Grand smart phone with a a moderate Android handset with a 5-inch WVGA display. It is bigger than Galaxy S III and smaller than Galaxy Note II. The phone is equipped with 2MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera with full HD video recording. It also features 1.2GHz dual-core processor and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The internal memory capacity is of 8GB with 1GB of RAM and also has a microSD slot to enable the smart phone’s expandable memory capability.
Samsung would be launching 2 versions of the device – Dual SIM and Single SIM. Samsung promises complete flexibility in communication in the dual SIM version where in the users can manage 2 phone numbers in the Single phone. The user can receive calls on one SIM number while taking a call from the other SIM and ensures that there is efficient personal and work commitment management without missing any call.
Display and Design:
Samsung Galaxy Grand has a bigger 5-inch WVGS capacitive touch screen display with 1.2 Ghz dual core processor and lacks in its resolution power which is just 800 X 480 – which is an outdated version is not in par when compared to the new high-end smart phone devices but definitely is closer to the new entrant manufacturers in the market. So, is Samsung really competing with the new entrants?
Like the other smart phones we can’t expect it to be light like a feather and tiny device. It has its physical dimension of 143.5 x 76.9 x 9.6mm and weighs 162 grams. Though compared to its BigB Galaxy Note II it is less daunting in size and weight.
Though the 1GB of RAM is very good – Samsung has maintained the standard with the other high end devices. But the internal memory storage is of only 8GB and definitely it would have required extended memory capacity so that it could stand in the market. It has a microSD slot for extendable memory which can be extended up to 64GB.
Samsung Galaxy Grand features 2 cameras – front and back facing. The back facing auto focus camera is of 8MP with LED flash and BSI sensor for better low light imaging, zero shutter-lag and ultra-quick camera start-up. It has video recording capacity of 1080P where as the front facing camera of 2MP shooter can record up to 720p videos.
OS and Connectivity:
Galaxy Grand is a smart phone when we talk about its software. It comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly bean.
It has a blue tooth connectivity of 4.2, Wi-fi connectivity of 802.11 a/b/g/n with Glonass support. Digital compass, gyroscope, accelerometer are some other features of this phone.
The dual core 1.2 GHz processor is equipped with a batter power of 2,100mAh battery.
Of course, it has other Samsung unequaled features like Multi Window, S Voice, Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert and AllShare Play.
Though the price of this new entrant in Samsung family of smart phones is not disclosed but we hope it be a mid-range device with its middle-of-the-road smart phone features.
